Passing of Rick Rattray

VALE: Rick Rattray … 26/07/1944 – 25/09/2013Rick Rattray - President

It is with sadness that Murwillumbah Veterans inform you of the passing of Rick Rattray. Rick held the positions of President of Murwillumbah Vets, President of Northern Rivers Veterans Golf Association, Captain of Murwillumbah Golf Club and Delegate to Northern Rivers Golf Association.

Rick was a strong advocate of Veterans Golf, not only in Murwillumbah Golf Club, but in the Northern Rivers. His input into all aspects of Golf at all levels will be sorely missed.

Rick joined Murwillumbah Golf Cub in 1989, and the Vets in 2002. He became President of the Veterans in 2005. In 2008 Rick became President of NRVGA.

Rick has been a member of Murwillumbah Golf Club Board since 2004/05 and has held position of Club Captain for the last six – since 2007

The last position that Rick held, and one that he was very proud of, was Lolly Sheriff. He loved driving around the Course during our Week of Golf making sure that each competitor remained mindful of his or her position in the field. He would entice them to catch up by offering lollies. Particpants enjoyed this novel idea and responded to the sight of the Ranger Buggy driving towards them. This certainly added to Rick’s overriding ideal of creating an atmosphere among participants that Murwillumbah was the Friendly Club.

On behalf of the Iluka Vetrans Golf club, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and member of the Murwillumbah Golf Club at the passing of Rick Rattray. 4. It is with shock and great sadness that I received the notice of Ricks passing. The many hours shared together playing a round of golf or attending meetings of the NRVGA allowed me the privilege of sharing time with a true gentleman of our sport. Rick took over from myself as President of the NRVGA,in that important administrative role without any doubt served us all with distinction. My deepest and profound condolences to his family and all at Murwilumbah

  5. Rick was a great mentor for me, and helped Maclean Golf Club tremendously particularly in our quest to be granted a week of golf from NSWVGA.
A quiet achiever, Rick thought about the issues and then gave his advice.
Everyone who played in the Murwillumbah WoG will recall the lolly sheriff, who never asked anyone to move a bit quicker but got them to do it anyway.
So thanks Rick, from all of us at Maclean Golf Club. Bruce and Megan Walsh.
